Sandra Almond, Council Member

Sandra Almond is a dedicated and hardworking member of the Holland community who is passionate about making a positive difference. Married to her husband, John Almond, Sandra has deep roots in Holland and takes pride in helping her neighbors and supporting local initiatives that strengthen the community.

When she’s not volunteering or working on community projects, Sandra enjoys gardening, where she finds joy in cultivating beauty and growth—both in her yard and in the place she calls home. Her commitment to service, paired with her love for the Holland community, drives her to work tirelessly to ensure it remains a vibrant and welcoming place for all.

Michael L. Bettinger, Council Member

I have been a resident of Springfield Township or the Village of Holland all my life. I graduated from Springfield Local High School and attended The University of Toledo where I received an associate’s degree in civil engineering. After college, I went to work for a local engineering company until I was drafted by the US Army, was sent to Vietnam where I served with the 937th Engineer Group until discharged. Upon my return I worked for several engineering firms until going to work for a local General Contractor doing their site designs and civil engineering for 35 years. I am also a Professional Surveyor and have been on the Village Planning Commission and the Village Council for 10 years.

Scott Brown, President of Council

Scott Brown has served as Council President for the past five years, providing steady leadership and a strong commitment to the growth and well being of the village. Prior to his current role, he served on the Whisperwood Homeowners Association, where he gained valuable experience in community governance and resident advocacy.

A resident of the village for seven years and of the Toledo area for more than 25 years, Scott brings both local knowledge and long term perspective to his work. He is dedicated to preserving the unique small village character of the community while ensuring residents continue to benefit from high quality services and effective local government.

Outside of his public service, Scott enjoys cooking and traveling. He values the opportunity to represent the community and remains focused on fostering a strong, connected, and thriving village for current and future residents.

Nathan Gaubert, Council Member

Nathan Gaubert has proudly served on the Village Council since 2021, bringing a strong commitment to community engagement, thoughtful leadership, and responsible development. Prior to his time on council, Nathan served as President of the Whisperwood Homeowners Association for four years, where he worked closely with residents to enhance neighborhood safety, communication, and quality of life.

A resident of the Springfield Township and Holland areas for nearly two decades, Nathan has deep roots in the community and a strong understanding of the issues that matter most to local families and businesses. Nathan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry from The Ohio State University. His scientific background informs his analytical approach to problem-solving and his dedication to evidence-based decision-making in public service.

He is passionate about fostering transparent governance, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring that the voices of residents are heard and respected in every decision made by the council.

Sandy Hensley, Council Member

I have lived in the village for 32 years and have seen many changes. I am a semi-retired registered nurse with a master’s degree. My specialty is infection prevention, along with employee health and safety. I wanted to serve on council to give back to my community. My goal is to reach out and encourage more interest and participation from our residents. I love to read, cook and travel and enjoy working in the garden.

Justin Hoen, Council Member

Justin was born and raised in south Toledo. He graduated High School from Toledo Christian. He and his wife, Heather, moved to the Village in 2006 and have four boys who all attend Springfield Local Schools. He began working at his family’s business, Hoen’s Garden Center, at a young age, and continues to operate it with family. He joined the Council in 2022 and is privileged to serve the community.
