Recycling



The Village, in conjunction with the Lucas County Solid Waste Management District, conducts weekly curbside recycling. Village maintenance crews made a total of 11,422 recycling stops as of Oct. 1 2008. The amount of solid waste deposited in the landfill from Village residences was approximately 640,000 pounds or 320 tons of material.

Each year, residents of Lucas County recycle over:

*150 tons of household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries etc.)                                     *34,000 tons of yard waste                                            *1,000 tons of scrap tires                                    *24,123 tons of news and & other papers and           *1,853 tons of glass, 23,461 tons of metal, 812 tons of plastic and 12,092 tons of cardboard.

Beginning April 1, 2006 all paper and cardboard recycling material must be placed in a separate bin from other materials.  Additional bins are available at the Village offices at no cost to you.

Your assistance in correctly separating recycling materials and assuring that non-recyclables such as food scraps, diapers and sanitary products are not placed in the bins is greatly appreciated.

Items to Recycle:

• Glass jars
• Bottles
• Tin cans
• Plastic milk
• Soap containers

All items should be rinsed. It is not necessary to remove the labels.

• Newspaper
• Cardboard

Newspapers and cardboard should be bundled separately from other recyclables. Most residents find that a brown paper grocery sack to hold newspapers and bundling of flattened cardboard works best.

When does the Village collect Recycling?

Recycling is collected on Wednesdays. The red bins provided by the Village should be placed at the curb prior to 7:00 Wednesday mornings.

Where do I get a bin and can I get additional bins?

Recycling bins are available at the Village offices, 1245 Clarion Avenue Monday thru Friday 8-4:30p.m. Additional bins are also available if yours has been lost, damaged or just is not big enough to hold all your recycling Bins are provided at no cost to residents.
